How Does the GIA Grade Their Diamonds?
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) created the 4 Cs (clarity, color, cut and carat weight) used to grade diamonds. The 4 Cs are now recognized by diamond jewelers and other gemology labs across the world, such as EGL, IGL and WGI, as the accepted grading method for all diamonds.
Each GIA certificate contains a report number, allowing a potential customer to verify the certificate on the GIA website. The GIA also provides interactive online reports for all natural, untreated diamonds, allowing you to view the diamond close-up to get a precise idea of the quality of the diamond and the placement of the imperfections in the stone. This is especially useful if you are purchasing diamonds online.
